this is my memorial to Misha’s passing
these are my own personal tips/solutions~
- clean your room every day - or at least clean something, it makes you feel soooo much better. this site/blog is a great reference for where to begin getting healthy cleaning habits.
- you don’t need to shower every day, but a hot shower has never made me feel worse when battling deep depression periods.
- experience some nature if you can. small walks in my backyard help. just touching the grass and trees feels amazing. potted or fake plants are really nice too if you dislike going outside! also opening a window often gives me instant relief during panic attacks.
- cook as much as you can manage. there’s so many easy/cheap/healthy recipes that don’t weigh you down as much as emotional cravings will. and cooking makes me feel proud that i created something!
- for panic attacks: remember how the last one felt compared to this one. they’re probably similar. and you survived that one, right?
- take your prescription meds. if you have a psychiatrist available to you, please take advantage of it and take meds as needed. there’s no shame in getting help this way, and you can perhaps get off of them someday.
- if you need help finding therapy, most places have an “MHMR” or a mental health help center. you can locate some low cost psychiatry or counseling there.
- speak to someone. whether it’s a friend, partner, pet, even a stranger - it helps so much to just tell someone how you feel about stuff and things. bottling up emotions never feels good later.
- instead of self harm, take up something like exercise - sore legs never feel good!! (but they also do, so, it really helps) painting is also a great way to vent and relieve stress without the physical impact.
- speaking of painting - try a new hobby! watch a new movie, watch an old favorite movie. try drawing a subject near you. origami, making jewelry, baking, drying flowers, write letters to friends, try and pet 10 nice dogs in a day - the possibilities are truly endless.
- de-clutter now and then. i tend to hold onto emotional things for me - paintings from exes, notes from middle school, sweaters that don’t fit. organizing and throwing out or donating these things really helped me move on from negative past experiences. i usually donate my clothes to locals women’s crisis centers or LGBT friendly shelters.
- try volunteer work someday. helping someone else always makes me feel really warm and fuzzy! there’s all sorts of work to be done - libraries, homeless shelters, farms, nursing homes, animal shelters. bonus: you might make some friends!
- music music music music music! i love music. i make playlists for every mood - but try not to linger too long in sad playlists. make yourself play some happy music and get on that cleaning routine~?
- drink enough water! this is crucial. green tea is amazing for you too!
- positive self talk is also very helpful, cheesy at it may seem. validate yourself and your accomplishments! you did good!
good luck! you can do it~! ♥
